In my children’s story, The Baiji, Ai Bao and Shu Rui are best friends. They spend the first day of the Spring Festival together, lighting firecrackers and laughing. But things change. Good fortune is more fickle than friendship.
Chinese New Year is a beautiful celebration of family and friendship. Food, gifts, and fireworks abound. Many holidays provide opportunities to strengthen the bond of family.
Guònián hǎo! Happy New Year! ( By the way, it’s the year of the sheep/ goat/ ram…take your pick. It’s a translation thing.)
Which holiday is your favorite?
I think this is only the second time in my life I’ve seen mention of the baiji.

Sadly, it is extinct. Good fortune did not follow the Chinese River Dolphin. Pollution and man brought about its demise. People living alone the Yangtze river, the former home of the baiji, have higher risks of cancer. China is failing them all.

Well, I sure am sorry to hear that.
