I Hate The Day

Of course the Captain sensed her pain.  Everyone on The New Remnant knew pain.  Pain followed them like a shadow.  Kayleen wondered if pain was something God intentioned.  Some people on the ship claimed pain was a compass, a tool, a device to teach you something.

But Kayleen just hurt.

The Captain, ever the philosopher, offered a thematic quote.

“’I hate the day, because it lendeth light      

       To see all things, but not my love to see. Edmund Spenser’”

“Humph,” Kayleen scoffed.  “I don’t love him.  I’m fine with not seeing him,” she added.
